EVERY year, the holy month of Ramazan leads to temporary lifestyle modifications in most Pakistanis. They turn to the mosques and attend religious sermons in an attempt to become good Muslims. Are such deeds enough to meet such a lofty target? Islam, after all, is a complete code of life, not just a set of rituals.
In our society, people merely put up a façade of being devout Muslims by, say, praying in the front row of the mosque, yet their dealings often remain dishonest and condemnable. Vendors and merchants in Ramazan stop their business at the time of prayers, but demand unjustified prices for their products. Will this make them committed worshippers or really pious Muslims? I really have my doubts in this regard. Deplorably, we happen to be a `Muslim society`, not an Islamic society.
