THE Sindh government recently abolished charged parking in Karachi, with the provincial senior minister insisting that any charged parking space, if found, would be considered illegal. While the move is positive, I wonder if charged parking is now considered illegal, why it was ever considered legal.
However, the announcement by the Sindh government has failed to dampen the spirit of the charged parking mafia, which has remained as active as it was before. The minister concerned would do well to visit different parts of the city, particularly Saddar, Tariq Road and other busy commercial hubs, to enforce his announcement. The government has to act against the charged parking mafia.
