UMERKOT: The third judicial magistrate of Mirpurkhas on Saturday dismissed as `false` an FIR about possession of illicit arms, which was registered against Dr Shahnawaz Kunbhar after his death in a staged encounter, and ordered registration of a case against the then SHO of Sindhri police station.

Ibrahim Kunbhar, complainant and brother-in-law of Dr Kunbhar, told journalists that Judge Sajid Iqbal had ruled the case of possession of illegal weapons against Dr Kunbhar was false and ordered its dismissal.

He said that five months ago, the FIR was filed against Dr Kunbhar, a resident of Umerkot, after he was killed in a staged police encounter in Mirpurkhas. Sindhri police registered the case against the victim after his death in the encounter, he said.

The case`s investigating officer, DSP Aslam Jagirani, submitted final report to the court, recommending that the case be classified as B-Class (false case). In his report, he stated that the claims regarding possession of illegal weapon were entirely fabricated.

On the basis on the report, the court officially dismissed the FIR against Dr Kunbhar and directed current SHO of Sindhri police station to register a case against the former SHO Niaz Khoso under Section 24 of the Sindh Arms Act, 2013, for filing a false FIR.
