PHMA: The Pakistan Hosiery Manufacturers & Exporters Association (PHMA) has urged the Ministry of Commerce to include the knitwear sector in the newly formed committee reviewing the export facilitation scheme (EFS).
Despite being the largest exportearner, the knitwear sector has been excluded from representation in this crucial committee.
In a statement issued on Saturday, PHMA Senior Vice Chairman Hazar Khan rejected the committee`s composition, saying that PHMA, the leading trade organisation representing the hosiery and knitwear industry, should be included. He said the sector`s significant contributions to economic growth, job creation and national self-reliance should be acknowledged.
He said that with proper support, the textile sector particularly knitwear could increase foreign exchange earnings and provide large-scale employment.
He said that, despite numerous challenges, the knitwear sector had outperformed other export industries, demonstrating resilience and potential for growth.
He said the sector was a major taxpayer, the largest employmentprovider in the textile industry, and a key source of foreign exchange earnings. He called for immediate government action to rectify the oversight and include PHMA in the review process.
