PESHAWAR: The district and sessions judge, Inamullah Wazir, on Friday conducted special visit of Peshawar Central prison in connection with the arrival of the month of Ramazan and issued several directives to the concerned officials.
The district judge was accompanied by senior civil judge Imranullah Khan and judicial magistrate, Mohammad Wiqar Khan.
The judicial officers also heard cases of prisoners charged in petty nature cases and disposed of severalofthecasessothatthe concerned prisoners could be released and they could rejoin their families for the month of Ramazan.
Peshawar High Court Chief Justice Syed Mohammad Attique Shah recently directed all district judges to visit prisons in their jurisdiction before start of Ramazan to provide relief to prisoners.
The district judge went through different portions of the prisons. The judge while visiting the prison`s kitchen expressed reservations over the sanitation situation there and directed the prison staff to bring improvement into it.
The judge also checked the food prepared for the prisoners. He ordered the staff to provide proper food to the prisoners at sehr and iftar.
He also visited the prison hospital and inquired from the prisoners admitted there about the facilities provided to them.
The prisoners expressed satisfaction over the treatment provided to them and stated that apart from prison doctors, specialist doctors had also been visiting them for medical treatment.
The prison superintendent informed the district judge that work had been completed on rehabilitation centre for drug addicts, which would be inaugurated in the near future.
The district judge also visited vocational centres and small factories set up for prisoners in the prison.
