MUZAFFARABAD: A teenage boy was critically injured in Azad Jammu and Kashmir on Saturday when Indian forces resorted to unprovoked firing from across the Line of Control (LoC), officials said.

Attique Qureshi, 18, was outside his house in Chiroti Polas village when he became victim of Indian firing by light machinegun at about 4pm, Poonch Deputy Commissioner Raja Tahir Mumtaz said.

Qureshi was taken to Shaikh Khalif a bin Zayed alNahyan Hospital in Rawalakot, he added. The InterServices Public Relations said in a statement that Pakistani troops effectively responded to India`s firing.

The Foreign Office condemned the ceasefire violation. `We condemn targeting of a civilian by India and endangering peace,` said FO spokesperson Nafees Zakaria in a tweet.

On March 18, four people, among them a woman, were injured in Indian firing in three sectors of Kotli district.
