Retired SP shot dead outside his house

LAHORE: A retired superintendent of police (SP) was shot dead by an unidentified masked assailant outside his Millat Park house on Saturday.
A CCTV camera footage surfacing on social media showed that the retired SP Farhat Abbas, 62, was about to leave for his native Baharwalvillage,Pattokiin a car parked outside his house in Millat Park on Multan Road, when a young man armed with a pistol approached him.
The masked youth repeat-edly shot at and injured Mr Abbas, who fell onto the ground. The suspect then fled the scene. The injured man was taken to hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
Millat Park police shifted the body to the morgue for an autopsy and registered a murder case against unidentified killer on the complaint of the victim`s nephew Salman Tahir.
Tahir told Dawn that his uncle Abbas was going to their native town to attend a punchayat and was standing outside his house when he was shot.
`I was in the porch of thehouse and rushed to the spot after hearing gunshots and found my uncle lying in a pool of blood,` he said.
`We rushed him to hospital where the doctors declared him dead,` he added.
Replying to a query, he said he did not know why his uncle was killed as he had no enmity or feud with anyone.
Crime Investigation Agency (CIA) Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) retired Capt Liaqat Malik visited the crime scene, where SHO andhouse and rushed to the spot after hearing gunshots and found my uncle lying in a pool of blood,` he said.

Crime Investigation Agency (CIA) Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) retired Capt Liaqat Malik visited the crime scene, where SHO and investigation in charge briefed him about the incident.
Mr Malik directed the police to collect all the videos of the CCTV cameras in the area, adding that the latest technology would be used to arrest the culprit who killed a retired police officer.
Capital City Police Officer (CCPO) Bilal Siddque took notice of the incident and sought a report from Iqbal Town SP.
He also ordered senior police officers to investigate the matter and arrest the killer.
Meanwhile, Inspector General of Police (IGP) Dr Usman Anwar took notice of the incident and sought a report from Lahore CCPO.
He also visited the residence of the deceased, met with his family members, besides taking a briefing from the police officers concerned on the incident.
He ordered the Lahore police to form a special team to arrest the killer by carefully examining the available evidence, including the footage of Punjab Safe City Authority cameras.
