RAWALPINDI: A woman who allegedly consumed acid following a fight with her husband last month died in the District Headquarters (DHQ) Hospital on Wednesday, police said.

They said that following the woman’s death, identified as 20-year-old Sania, her parents lodged a complaint with the police accusing her husband of forcing her to consume acid.

Sania was hospitalised on April 6, but at the time neither she nor her parents lodged a complaint with the police, they said.

According to a doctor, the patient’s condition started deteriorating due to poisoning as there were no other acid wounds on her body when she was brought to the hospital.

Had the victim been forced to drink acid, there would have been burn injuries on her body, the doctor said.

However, the police said the woman’s body was handed over to her parents after the postmortem.

Separately, the police have arrested a man after his wife, who was allegedly shot and injured by him on Monday in Naseerabad, died in the emergency ward of the DHQ Hospital on Tuesday.

Police said the man went to his in-laws’ house in New Chakra area to convince his wife Rizwana Shahzadi to return home.

He allegedly shot her while they were arguing.

Imtiaz Ahmed, who is investigating the incident, told Dawn the suspect, an auto electrician, had married Shahzadi three years ago and had a son.

He said his wife had left her husband’s house many times but she was brought back by her husband. He said this time she refused to return.
