Moot calls for provision of quality education in remote areas

BADIN: Educated and literate individuals are insurers of a stable and prosperous Pakistan and economic development, prosperity and peace; in turn they are guarantors of a peaceful world.
This was stated by Michael Houlgate, British Council`s area director for Sindh and Balochistan, while addressing a seminar titled `Take a Child to School-TACS-IP at the gymkhana in Badin the other day.
He said the United Kingdom had beenfinancially supporting and striving hard with different stakeholders in Pakistan for the past many years to assure quality education, improve public health and reduce poverty ratio in the country. Pakistanis were always found to be sincere, hard-working and peaceful, he added.
He said that with the collaborative efforts of British Council and different local stakeholders of the province, enrolment of children in their nearby schools would be assured fully. He expressed happiness over the impact of the activities and coordination of local stakeholders along with British Councilin the remote areas of Sindh. Youths and locally-formed community committees were monitoring the activities of the local stakeholders regularly which according to him were innovative initiatives in the project.
Ms Kanwal Shah, project director from British Council, said the organisation was supporting quality education in remote areas of the province on priority.
MPA Ms Tanzeela Umm-i-Habib Qambrani said the provincial government was jointly putting in efforts to bring tangible improvements in education, health and others sectors, and British Council was its ally toachieve the targets. The Sindh government was making efforts to ensure availability of all basic facilities at all schools of the province with close coordination of different key stakeholders like British Council, she added.
Project manager Hussain Rajpar said that more than 593 volunteers were motivated and prepared to achieve the objective and according to him, his team succeeded to enrol more than 6,000 children in different schools of district Badin.
Others who addressed the seminar included Imran Ali Shah, Tanweer Ahmed Arain, Ghulam Mustafa Jamali and Yaqub Halepoto.
