Beating wives `lightly`

2016-06-02
HUSBANDS can beat their wives `lightly` if they disobey, according to a controversial recommendation made by the Council of Islamic Ideology (CII) in its new Women Protection Bill.

Women have fought for their rights for decades in Pakistan, a country where so-called honour killings and acid attacks remain commonplace.

The proposal includes step-by-step guidelines on how men are to beat their wives. The document does suggest that violence be used only as a last resort for a wife`s disobedience. The CII suggests that any man who doesn`t follow the processes should be prosecuted.

Our Holy Prophet( peace be upon him) never beat his wives at all or mistreated them in any way. In fact, he said: `The best for you is the one who is the best to his wife`.

What is being portrayed is not true Islam.

True Islam is to treat women like angels.
