LANDI KOTAL: Police on Monday arrested at least 23 tribesmen and seized their weapons in Landi Kotal after a clash between two tribes over a land dispute.

Landi Kotal SHO Ibrahim Khan said that armed tribesmen of Peerokhel and LoeShalman took positions in their respective trenches near Enzari Kandaw and exchanged fire with automatic weapons for some time.

He said that police immediately reached the sport after receiving information about the clash and disarmed all the people present on the spot.He said that police took into protective custody at least 23 people along with seizing all their weapons.

The SHO said that Peerokhel and LoeShalman tribesmen had a longstanding ownership dispute over of a piece of land at Enzari Kandaw and the disputed land remained unoccupied since long as both tribes thwarted each other`s efforts to build rooms on the land in the past.

The official said that the district administration had convened a jirga of elders of both the tribes to resolve the issue through negotiations while police in the meantime bound both the rival groups for a ceasefire.
