LAHORE: The provincial government on Wednesday appointed senior lawyer Shahzad Shaukat as new advocate general of Punjab (AGP).

The office fell vacant after the resignation of Ahmad Awais following appointment of new governor in the province.

Mr Shaukat has expertise in constitutional and civil laws. He was elected secretary of the Lahore High Court Bar Association in 1996. He actively participated in the 2007 lawyers` movement for the restoration of the deposed judiciary.
