Policeman among three held for Rs5.3m robbery on motorway

NAROWAL: Sialkot police arrested three suspects, including a police assistant sub-inspector (ASI), on charge of robbing a businessman of Rs5.3 million on motorway also recovering the looted amount, along with mobile phones allegedly snatched during the robbery.
According to Sialkot district police spokesperson, a businessman, Sadagat Ali, of Sheikhupura, who supplies chemicals to factories, was on May 24 returning from Sialkot to his native town by a car with his driver Arshad after recovering money.
The police said three unidentifiedarmed masked robbers forcibly stopped Sadagat`s car near Dheedwali Interchange on SialkotLahore Motorway, snatched Rs5.3m and costly mobile phones from him at gunpoint and fled away in their car.
Daska Sadar police registered a first information report (FIR) against the unidentified robbers on the complaint of Sadagat Ali.
District Police Officer (DPO) Muhammad Hassan Iqbal took notice of the incident and formed raiding teams headed by Investigator SP Farooq Amjad.
The police said that during investigation they found suspicious calls on driver Arshad`s mobile phone and took him in custody.Arshad confessed to have committed the robbery with the help of three other men, including ASI Nazim Ali, posted at Narang Mandi police station, Sheikhupura district.
On the basis of the information extracted from Arshad, the police arrested two of the suspects, Owais and Nazim Ali and recovered the looted amount and mobile phones from them.
The DPO also ordered immediate arrest of the fourth suspect wanted in the robbery case and announced cash prizes and certificates of appreciation for SP Farooq Amjad, SHO Irshad Ahmed and members of the raiding police team.
