ISLAMABAD: The Directorate of Municipal Administration (DMA) of Metropolitan Corporation Islamabad (MCI) on Sunday pointed out that corruption in the I-11 intra-city bus terminal stand has been exposed.

“Director DMA Dr Anum Fatima has taken strong administrative steps regarding the I-11 intra-city bus stand. Investigations revealed that the stand was being operated illegally by a private contractor in collusion with certain DMA staff, resulting in a revenue loss of approximately Rs25 million over a year, with no funds deposited into the official DMA account,” read a statement.

It said in response to above mentioned episode, a formal departmental inquiry had been launched against those involved.

“New staff have been posted at the I-11 terminal, and daily income of the I-11 bus stand is now an average Rs60,000 per day, and the expected revenue of an estimated Rs1.8 million per month is now being properly collected and deposited into the DMA account,” the statement further said.

Meanwhile, the statement said that DMA has launched upgradation and rehabilitation project for the G-9 bus stand to restore its former status and provide modern travel facilities for the citizens of Islamabad.

According to Dr Anum Fatima G-9 bus stand was originally established in 1990 and once served as the central hub for intercity transport across all provinces. However, due to prolonged administrative negligence, most transport companies ceased operations from this location, leading to a loss of public trust. — Staff Reporter
