MARDAN: A woman and her son were killed, while her husband received serious injuries when their house collapsed after a power generator exploded in Shah Dhand Baba area here on Tuesday.

Local people and police said that Abdul Jalil Bacha was trying to start the generator using a LPG cylinder at Sehri time in Mian Kalay area when it exploded. As a result, Bacha`s wife Gulzar Begum, 60, and son, Mohammad Hashim, 23, died on the spot, while he received critical wounds.

The explosion was so severe that the house collapsed. Local residents and Rescue-1122 personnel rushed to the spot and started rescue operation.

The rescue officials retrieved the bodies of the woman and her son from the rubble and shifted the injured to Mardan Medical Complex, where doctors referred him to Lady Reading Hospital Peshawar in precarious condition.

The bodies were handed over to the relatives after fulfilling the legal formalities.

The police registered the case and began investigation.
