Highway cleared for traffic 15 hours after petrol tanker overturns

BAHAWALPUR: The National Highways and Motorway Police (NH&MP), local police and Rescue 1122 personnel managed to restore vehicular movement on KarachiLahore-Peshawar highway after it was closed for 15 hours due to the overturning of a petrol tanker.

The tanker, with a capacity of 40,000 litres, had overturned on Sunday night near Gullan Di Hatti, about 30 kilometres from here.

According to the tanker`s driver, he lost control over the vehicle when suddenly a truck appeared in front of it. The driver was injured and shifted to Bahawal Victoria Hospital.

On receipt of information, Deputy Commissioner Shozeb Saeed, accompanied by District Police Of ficer Amir Taimur Buzdar as wellas NH&MP, police and other department personnel, rushed to the spot, cordoned off the area and blocked the road. Long queues of vehicles could be seen on both sides of the road that created inconvenience for the commuters.

According to Rescue 1122 emergency in-charge, Baqir Hussain, the traf fic movement was resumed af ter the cooling process was completed and the overturned tanker lifted from the spot, as it had started spilling petrol.

CATTLE MARKET BUDGET: The Board of Directors of the cattle market management company in its meeting held here on Monday approved a budget of around Rs256 million for the current financial year.

According to details provided by the company`s managing director, Waqar Jaf fer, the company will have Rs66 million from outsourcingincome. It will spend Rs35 million on the market`s development and utilise Rs55 million on operational expenses.

The meeting, presided over by Commissioner Nayyar Iqbal, approved one-year extension in the services of the company`s employees. The commissioner directed the company to provide better facilities, including drinking water and fodder, to the buyers of animals at cattle markets. He also directed to complete the arrangements before it was time for setting up of sales points for sacrificial animals for Eidul Azha.

Meanwhile, the divisional agricultural task force meeting was informed that during a year, fake fertiliser worth over Rs1 million had been recovered in the division, while Rs a million was fined to those involved in black marketing of the fertiliser.
