LWMC disposed of 56,000 tonnes of animal waste

L AHORE: The Lahore Waste Management Company (LWMC) disposed of more than 56,000 tonnes of animal waste during the three days of Eidul Azha.

The operation was backed by day and night working of more than 10,000 sanitary workers and machinery including pickups, compactors, dumpers, loaders and excavators.

LWMC Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Babar Sahib Din along with Local Government Minister Amir Mir, Housing Minister Syed Azfar Ali, Commissioner Muhammad Ali Randhawa and Deputy Commissioner Rafia Haider paid frequent visits across the city to monitor the cleanliness operation.

They visited the LWMC camps as well as temporary collection points and distributed sweets and Eidi among workers. They also monitored the whole operation from the video wall control room.

During a press conference on Fort Road on Saturday, the LWMC CEO paid regards to the district administration and all allied departments i.e. LDA, Safe Cities Authority and especially to the workers. He said the entire staff of the LWMC deserved appreciation over their exceptional performance during Eid.

He said the LWMC disposed of more than 56,000 tonnes of animal waste, using 1.2 million waste bags which were distributed among the masses at Eid camps, model camps, shops, mosques and during a door-to-door campaign.

He said a bonus for all staff would be announced later over their excellent performance and working diligently during the Eid days.

Meanwhile, the department resolved more than 13,000 complaints on helpline 1139 and social media.

SHAHDARA FLYOVER: Chief Secretary Zahid Akhtar Zaman visited the Shahdara flyover plan on Eid Day and directed the authorities concerned to project completion timelines in every way.The chief secretary inspected the project site and appreciated the workers engaged in the work even during Eid holidays. He stressed that special care should be taken for the convenience of citizens during the construction work.

He said the Shahdara Chowk flyover would facilitate the movement of as many as 300,000 vehicles per day.

He said completion of the project would solve the longstanding problem of traffic on the main entrance and exit route of the city.

The chief secretary also visited the DHQ Hospital and Darul Aman in Sheikhupura on Eid day and reviewed the cleanliness and other arrangements.

He asked the staff about the availability of free medicines and provision of medical facilities at the hospital. He said the government would increase the medicine budget for the hospital, besides addressing the issue of shortage of staff.
