Case against 57 for challenging police writ

TOBA TEK SINGH: Gojra Saddar police registered a case against 57 people, including 22 nominated, for resisting the police in handing over an alleged robber on Monday.

Two robbers were confronted by villagers during a robbery, and one of them was caught by the mob, while the other took cover in a field on Sunday evening on Khidderwala Road near Chak 241-GB.

Complainant Sub-Inspector Muhammad Ajmal stated in his FIR, registered under sections 353,506,186,148and1490fthe Pakistan Penal Code, that heand other police officials arrested a robber hiding in crops. They then asked the villagers to hand over another robber who was caught by them, but the villagers resisted, and the police had to snatch the robber from their custody.

Police have arrested six people, including lumberdar Akbar.

Local residents staged a protest against the police on Monday for raiding their houses, alleging that the police damaged furniture and other goods duringthe raids.

They told reporters that they suspected police`s connivance with the gunmen, as they arrived at the scene over two hours after being informedthrough the 15 emergency number. They said they feared that the police might have released the bandits after taking a bribe.

They had sought the district police officer`s presence before handing over the custody of the overpowered suspect. They demanded the suspension of the Sadar station house officer, the quashing of the FIR, and the release of the arrested farmers.

COURT: Shorkot Additional District and Sessions Judge Rana Suhail Tariq handed down a 14-year rigorous imprisonment sentence and a fine of Rs300,000 each to Shaukat and Arshad on Monday.

Both convicts were arrested by Shorkot City police on Jan 13on Pattan Road, and 520 kg of poppy was recovered from their minivan.

ELECTROCUTED: Two persons were electrocuted in Toba on Monday.

Mason Muhammad Aslam was working on house construction in Gojra Chak 280-JB Dawakhri when he touched a live wire, receiving a electric shock that killed him instantly.

In another incident, Umer Hayat was electrocuted while trying to plug in a pedestal fan in Chak 184-GB, Rajana.

SCHOOL: The first `Early Morning School` has been established in Faisalabad under the chief minister`s programme in the building of GovernmentMC Higher Secondary School on Kotwali Road, which was inaugurated on Monday.

Children who worked in shops, hotels, and factories will receive education from 7 am to 10 am.

WASA: Normal business activities are being affected due to the accumulation of sewer and rainwater on important roads and commercial centres, said Dr Sajjad Arshad, FCCI senior vice president, in a statement on Monday.

He said light showers had converted low-lying areas into ponds of water. He demanded that Wasa prepare a comprehensive plan to face unexpected rains.
