Food poisoning death toll now three

GUJRAT: Death toll of the food poisoning incident of Eminabad, Gujranwala, reached three on Tuesday as an eight-year-old child of a police constable died in hospital while his two daughters had earlier died after eating toxic fast food at a birthday party on Sunday night.

Haider Ali, 8, son of Constable Naveed Pehlwan, died in the District Headquarters Hospital Gujranwala.

Naveed, an international Kabaddi player, alleged in his complaint registered with the Eimanabad police that he had six children and all the family gathered to celebrate the birthday of his 11-year-old daughter Eman Fatima where different food items were brought from at least five food outlets of the area.

He suspected that some poisonous material had been mixed in the food items consumed by the participants of the birthday party after which condition of all the children and he himself deteriorated and Rescue 1122 shifted them to the children ward of the DHQ Hospital where his two daughters, Noor Fatima and Jannat, died while the condition of his son, Haider Ali, was critical. Haider also died on Monday.

The police booked the owners of at least five fast food and bakery outlets on charges of murder and attempted murder whereas the outlets have also been sealed by the Punjab Food Authority (PFA).

Police registered a case against the nominated owners of the food outlets and started an investigation. Correspondent
