PML-N to hold workers conventions

Bureau Report 2016-08-02
PESHAWAR: The Pakistan Muslim LeagueNawaz`s provincial leadership has decided it will reorganise the party and hold worker conventions in different districts of the province to re-activate disgruntled activists.

It said a meeting of senior leaders would take place at the PML-N provincial secretariat in Peshawar tomorrow (Wednesday) to finalise schedule for such functions.

Peshawar district president Abdul Sattar Khalil told Dawn that internal differences had caused severe loss to the party in the province and therefore, it was time that the leadership take serious steps to please disgruntled workers.

`Our provincial president, Pir Sabir Shah, will preside over the August 3 meeting to answer questions of workers and finalise schedule for the visits and holding of worker conventions across the province,` he said.

Mr. Khalil said the 2018 elections were approaching fast but the PML-N leadership was least bothered about taking steps to strengthen the party.

`Some people are serving own interests at the cost of the party`s future,` he said.

The PML-N leader said Pir Sabir Shah was the party`s provincial presidentuntil the next intra-party elections and that he enjoyed the support of most workers so those working against him didn`t serve the party.

He said the purpose of holding conventions was to reactivate annoyed workers and bring them at one platform so that the maximum of the provincial and national assembly seats could be secured in the next elections.

Mr. Khalil said the conventions were also meant to counter the activities of Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf so that the people could know about its `failed` agenda.

`It is time that the leadership think seriously and please workers to form the future government in the province,` he said.
