ISLAMABAD: Awami Muslim League (AML) President Sheikh Rashid Ahmed was manhandled, allegedly by PML-N supporters, in front of Parliament House on Tuesday.
Earlier, the MNA was hooted down while he was delivering a speech against the PML-N`s candidate for leader of the house after the election of the interim prime minister.
He was then manhandled, allegedly by PML-N supporters, when he exited the hall and had to be rescued by National Assembly staff and Islamabad police, who escorted him out.
Talking to Dawn, the AML chief claimed this was a pre-planned attack.
`Captain Safdar and Abid Sher Ali threatened me . This was a pre-planned incident,` he alleged.
`After my speech, the National Assembly speaker asked me twice to use the back door to leave Parliament House to avoid such an incident. The speaker`s staff came to me with this message, but I refused and said I will leave through the front gate,` he said.
Mr Ahmed added that more than 2,000 people were brought in to teach him a lesson for filing the case against former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, which led to his disqualification.
`The speaker was also involved, since he gave PML-N workers permission to enter the galleries,` he claimed.
A couple of months ago, Mr Rashid was accosted outside Parliament House by a PML-N man who claimed he was owed money. Then, after the verdict disqualifying Nawaz Sharif was handed down, he was mobbed by supporters who tried to express their affection towards him a little too eagerly.
