People`s support sought to defeat terrorists

PESHAWAR: Speakers at an event here on Tuesday paid rich tributes to the personnel of law enforcement agencies, who sacrificed their lives for restoration of peace, and vowed to continue supporting armed forces to eradicate terrorism.

The event titled `Youm-iShuhada-i-Police` was held at Peshawar Press Club to pay tributes to the sacrifices of personnel of law enforcement agencies who were killed in line of duty. Police Training College Hangu Commandant Fasihuddin waschief guest on the occasion.

ANP general secretary Mian Iftikhar Hussain, former MNA Bushra Gohar, JUI-F information secretary Haji Jalil Jan, SSP Sajjad Khan, Sarhad Chamber of Commerce and Industry president Haji Mohammad Afzal and Women Chamber of Commerce and Industry president Shamama Arbab also spoke on the occasion.

Addressing the event, Bushra Gohar lauded police, armed forces, workers of political parties and common people for rendering sacrinces for restoration of peace in the country.

She called for revisiting policy on war against terrorism and foreign policy as well. `Our policies are self-destructive, which must be reviewed in best interest of people of the country,` she suggested.

Ms Gohar voiced concerns over disparity between the packages for police martyrs in KhyberPakhtunkhwa and other provinces. She said that formation of commission was demanded for investigating results of four constituencies of National Assembly, but no demand was made for formation of judicial commission to probe killings of innocent children in attack on Army Public School.

SSP Sajjad Khan claimed that Khyber Pakhtunkhwa police were unique as compared to rest of the world as they rendered unprecedented sacrifices in the ongoing war against terrorism. He added that police gained admiration, pride and appreciation at global level.

The official said that peace was restored due to sacrifices of police, armed forces, general public, political leaders, workers, and journalists. He said that police and people remained on the forefront against terrorists. However, he sought support of people forlasting stability in the province.

Mian Iftikhar Hussain in his address recounted the achievements and initiatives of previous provincial government of ANP. He took credit for establishment of writ of government in Swat and rest of Malakand division. He said that peace was restored to some extent in the province after the matchless sacrifices of police and armed forces.

The ANP leader asked the provincial government to take practical steps to meet requirements of police.

Haji Mohammad Afzal and Shamama Arbab also lauded police for offering sacrifices to restore peacein the province.

Fasihuddin said that police would continue their efforts with full passion and professional zeal to defeat terrorists. He sought support of people to restore sustainable peace and stability in the province.
