Concern voiced over shortage of health facilities in Bajaur

KHAR: Speaker at a seminar here on Tuesday showed concerns over shortage of health facilities in Bajaur Agency, especially for women and children.

The seminar was organised by local health department in collaboration with Fata health services, Unicef and World Health Organisation at agency headquarters hospital to mark World Breastfeeding Week.

Assistant Political Agent Anwarul Haq, Dr Himayatullah Khan, Mufti Hanifullah Jan, Sher Mohammad Khan and others addressed the seminar.

Most of the speakers showed concerns over shortage of health facilities in the agency for women and children.

They said that although several health units were established in the agency, yet most of those did not have proper facilities.

They said that majority of health units were without doctors and lady staff to cater to needs of women and children. They said that most of health workers in remote areas remained absent from duty owing to the lack of check by authorities.

The speakers said that most of thetruant health staffers were either relatives of senior health officials or belonged to influential families. They said that over 100 leady health workers (LHWs), whose services were regularised in 2013, were not performing duty.

The assistant political agent appreciated health department for arranging the seminar and said that such events were necessary to highlight the significance of breastfeeding. He said that World Breastfeeding Week should not be limited to seminars and walks only but health ofEcials should try to reach every home in the agency to create awareness among people.

Later, the participants held a walk to highlight importance of breastfeeding.

ANP: The local chapter of ANP has strongly criticised PTI lawmaker Murad Saeed for his remarks about Asfandyar Wali Khan and asked him to apologise for his comments.

According to a statement, ANP workers were shocked by Murad Saeed`s derogatory remarks about Afsandyar Wali Khan at the Sunday`s public meeting in Islamabad.

The statement said that the PTI lawmaker should apologise for his remarks and avoid using such language against any political leader.
