MITHl: Villagers helped rescue a deer of rare species which was caught in a leghold trap by a hunter in a jungle in Ranglio village near Islamkot on Wednesday.

The villagers told journalists that one Tejo Kolhi had trapped the deer and was about to haul it away when they spotted him. The hunter managed to flee leaving behind the injured animal which was later handed over to a team of wildlife department, they said.

Mithi game officer Ashfaq Ahmed told this reporter that the vets had to cut the deer`s leg free from the trap in order to save its life.

The deer was being treated and manhunt for the hunter had been launched, he said.
