Inescapable prison

2022-08-02
SOCIAL media has become an inescapable prison for many. It is easy to blame the West for our social media addiction, but dif ficult to perform reality check on ourselves. The truth is that people have become accustomed to pretending and showing of f so much that they end up living a dif ferent life on social media; a fake one.

They cannot resist the temptation of taking pictures of their outings and occasions, and posting it on social media.

Some of them crave for attention to the point that they adopt the lifestyle of celebrities, and even arrange lavish parties to be in the limelight on different social media platforms. Many people express their feelings and emotions through social media posts. They feel elated when theyreceive appreciation, and shattered when they are ignored or criticised.

Sadly, people have engaged themselves in an invincible war of competition. By faking a dif ferent lifestyle, they are only fooling themselves and missing out on the real happiness. We need to realise that real happiness exists in the real world; not in the virtual world. The peace of mind, the feelings of satisfaction, self-esteem, self-love, all come by acknowledging the earnest ef forts that we put into our own lives without indulging in comparisons.

We should try to set ourselves free from this prison of virtual world or else we will end up paying a heavy price down the road.
