OKARA: A suspect was shot dead during an alleged encounter while a constable suffered bullet injuries near the housing scheme phase-5.
The Saddar police claimed that SHO Malik Muhammad Arshad was near Chak 49/2-L bus stop on the Okara-Dipalpur road when a Dolphin constable made an emergency call. He informed about two unidentified armed motorcyclists who did not stop atthe picket and escaped.
The police chased the suspects and intercepted them near the housing scheme phase -5.
The gunmen opened fire at the police team that was retaliated.
During the encounter, Constable Azmat Ali suffered bullet injuries and fell on ground. The shooting encounter continued and the one gunman received bullets from his accomplice who managed to escape, leaving his injured accomplice behind.The suspect, later identified as Saleem, succumbed to his injuries. The police recovered a weapon from him. They shifted Constable Azmat to the District Headquarters City Hospital where he was stated to be in a stable condition.
The police registered a case on the report of SHO Arshad.
BODY RETRIEVED: The Rescue 1122 after 48 hours retrieved the body of a 23-yearold man from Chak 39/3-R.
The man, identified as Abrar Ali, had jumped into the Lower Bari Doab Canal (LBDC) to kill himself over a domestic issue.
The Rescue 1122 saved a young woman who had jumped into the LBDC to commit suicide but the persons present there immediately informed the Rescue team searching for the body of Abrar. The rescuers overpowered the woman and informed her family.
After counselling by rescues and villagers, the woman agreed to return to her home.
