China-Pakistan ties `cornerstone of regional stability`

ISLAMABAD: China and Pakistan on Friday reaffirmed their strategic partnership, calling it the cornerstone of mutual security and regional stability.

This reaffirmation was made during a ceremony marking the 98th anniversary of the founding of the People`s Liberation Army (PLA) at Pakistan Army`s General Headquarters in Rawalpindi.

Chinese Ambassador Jiang zaidong, speaking as the chief guest at the event, reiterated Beijing`s `unwavering support and commitment to its strategic partnership with Pakistan,` according to a statement from the Pakistani military`s public affairs wing, Inter-Services Public Relations.

Besides senior officers from Pakistan`s three armed services, officials from the Chinese embassy also attended the event.

Chief of Army Staff Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir described the China-Pakistan bond as `unique, time-tested, and exceptionally resilient, highlighting its significance amid shifting regional and global dynamics.

`The Pakistan-China strategic relationship exemplifies mutual trust, unwavering support, and shared commitment, COAS said adding that `despite shifting strategic dynamics, the friendship between the two nations has remained steadfast and unshakable.

He emphasised that the two militaries are `true brothers-in-arms`, withan enduring partnership that will `continue to play a pivotal role in promoting regional stability and safeguarding shared strategic interests.

Field Marshal Munir emphasised that the Pakistan-China strategic partnership stands as a model of deep mutual trust, steadfast support,and a strong sense of shared purpose.

The two countries have long collaborated on defence and security matters, conducting joint military exercises, engaging in technology exchanges, and coordinating on counterterrorism and border security. China is also Pakistan`s top defencesupplier, providing critical military hardware including fighter jets, drones, and naval vessels.

Their security ties have deepened amid heightened tensions in South Asia.

During recent escalations between Pakistan and India, Beijing extended diplomatic and strategic support to Islamabad, including aligning on key positions in international forums such as the United Nations, particularly on the Kashmir issue.

The ceremony saw officials from both countries reaffirm their commitment to bolstering military ties, driven by a shared strategic objective to counter India`s influence and enhance cooperation on maritime security, intelligence, and other key areas.
