PESHAWAR: The Awami National Party (ANP) has stressed the need that all the state institutions should work within the constitutional framework to avoid complications.
This was stated by the ANP provincial president, Milan Iftikhar Hussain, while addressing a press conference at Nowshera Press Club on Friday. On the occasion, political workers from different parties lead by a former PK-27 and NA-34 candidate Malik Nisar Ahmad Khattak announced joining the ANP.
Hussain said that gaumi amn jirga, a representative group of political parties and civil society organisations, had announced a peace march from Swabi Interchange to Islamabad on August 23.
`We want peace, justice, and end to terrorism, inflation, unemployment, and wrong policies,` he explained.
He also stressed the need to hold institutions accountable for their actions and ensure justice for victims of terrorism.
`We want the government to ensure parliament`s supremacy, judi-cial independence, and a fair election commission, guarantee citizens` rights to a peaceful, dignified, and secure life,` the ANP leader said.
To queries, Mr Hussain, who is also provincial president of the gaumi amn jirga, said that the decision to hold the peace march on Islamabad was made with the consensus of all political parties and representatives of civil society organisations.
He said that it was a very successful jirga, which brought together various stakeholders including political parties, tribal elders, and civil society members.
The jirga concluded with the announcement of a 28-point joint declaration, calling for united efforts to promote peace and stability in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
Mian Iftikhar Hussain emphasised that the march would be peaceful yet decisive display of public power, and demand an end to state negligence and its wrong policies.
He criticised the government`s failure to implement the 20-point National Action Plan, stating that only one point military courts had been implemented so far, while the rest had been ignored all-together.
