Shutdown in Thull over Sepco policy, `harassment of Hindu community`

SUKKUR: Citizens and traders of Thull town in Jacobabad district observed a complete shutter-down on Tuesday and held a sit-in for five hours against Sukkur Electric Power Company (Sepco) atrocities and harassment of the members of Hindu community a few days ago.
According to reports, bazaars, markets and shops in Thull town remained closed in protest against issuance of inflated electricity bills, detection bills and additional power load shedding by Sepco.
They said the power company was harassing the Hindu community people and arresting their people through police and Rangers.
A large number of people gathered at Rahbar Chowk where they burnt tyres and held the sit-in for five hours and raised slogans against Sepco under leadership of Hindu Punchayat president Ramesh Lal, Mahender Kumar, Ghulam Abbas Noonari of Shehri Ittehad, Asghar Lashari of the Sindh Taraqi Pasand Party, Liaqat Sarki of the Jeay Sindh Qaumi Mahaz, Haji Eidan Buriro of the PPP (Shaheed Bhutto), Khan Muhammad Sarki of the Jeay Sindh Tehrik, Ghulam Hussain Kunrani of the Jeay Sindh Mahaz and others. Flow of traffic was affected at Rahbar Chowk due to the sit-in.
The protest was ended when police along with Sepco officials held talks with the protesters and assured them that their grievances would be addressed.
