Explosives, weapons seized

ISLAMABAD: Three individuals were arrested from the city`s outskirts following the recovery of explosive, weapons and ammunition in separate raids conducted by the Crime Investigation Department (CID) of Islamabad police on Tuesday.

Of ficials said that a raid were conducted in the Kural and Barakahu are in response to an intelligence report on suspicious persons living in the area. Five suspects were arrested in the raid, and explosives commonly used in mines, as well as sub-machine guns (SMG) and ammunition were recovered from their possession.

Those arrested were then shifted to the CID for further legal action.

An official told Dawn that along with explosives, potassium was also recovered from them. Two suspects were also arrested in Kural, which led to the recovery of 30kg of explosives. An individual was also arrested in Bhara Kahu, and 500gm of explosives were recovered during the arrest.

The official said one of the suspects has claimed that they had a permit for explosives, adding that the permits are currently being verified and are awaiting the report. The official said those arrested were in possession of more explosive material than allowed by the permit.

A raid in the Golra area was also conducted earlier, which led to the arrest of an individual allegedly connected to a militant outfit. The team also recovered weapons and ammunition from the arrest. The official refused to comment on the individual`s identity or links with militant outfits. A Reporter
