Musical evening hopes to revive folk music

RAWALPINDI: A Sufi musical evening mesmerised its audience at the Rawalpindi Arts Council (RAC) on Tuesday. The event was arranged by the Rafi Peer Theatre Workshop in collaboration with the RAC.

The musical evening was the first event to take place at the RAC after a threemonth summer break. Typically, events are not arranged during the summer.

The event featured Wahdat Rameez,Saeen Mohammad Ali, Shaukat Dholia and Mian Miri Qawwal.

The musical evening commenced with Wahdat Rameez`s performance, who enthralled the audience with well-known Sufi kalaam such as `Menda Ishq VI Tun`, `Chaitti Mori Way Tabiba`, `Sanwal Mor Moharan` and `Chhap Talak Sab Cheen Li` Saeen Mohammad Ali performed on his aik tara, playing traditional foll( music such as `Key Jana Me Kaon`, `Ni Me Kamli Yar Di Kamli`, `Allah Ho, Allah Ho` and `Dam Mast Qalandar`.Shaukat Dholia`s performed on a dhol, and received thunderous applause.

The final performance of the night was by Mian Miri Qawwal, who opened with `Allah Ho, Allah Ho`, followed by `Tajdar-eHaram, Nigah-e-Karam`, as well as upbeat versions of `Mera Piya Ghar Aya` and `Dil Lagi` The performances featured poetry by Khawaja Ghulam Fareed, Baba Bulleh Shah, Amir Khusro and other Sufi saints.

The performers also spoke on the importance of love, peace and tolerance.RAC resident director Waqar Ahmed said that Sufi poetry has spread the message of love and peace throughout history.

He said that it was imperative that younger generations are introduced to these works.

Ahmed said that the evening was organised as an effort to revive the performance of Sufi kalaam.

He said that the evening was organised to provide Rawalpindi residents with the opportunity to enjoy such music and spread the message of peace and love.
