LAHORE: The Alhamra Art Centre, The Mall, had a lot to offer on Tuesday to theatre audience as two plays -first a LAC production and the second of Rafi Peer Theatre`s -pulled in crowds.
The Lahore Arts Council`s theatrical production `Hum Aik Hain` had many aspects about it. Written and directed by senior stage actor Pervaiz Raza with associate director Qaiser Javed, the theme of the play was based on patriotism and different challenges and issues being confronted by the Pakistani society.
An important aspect of the play was one of its female lead Misaal who quit her MBA in her last semester as she had a penchant for theatre. She told this reporter that `Hum Aik Hain` was her maiden play and it was a great experience for her to perform.
The major cast of the play includedKhalid Moeen Butt, Naeem Kashmiri, Mujahid Rana, Saba Raza, Sanam Naz, Misaal and Zafar Irshad. The non-ticketed event will be held regularly every evening for 10 days at Alhamra.
The other play, a street theatre, titled Is Diye Ko Jalne Do`, a Rafi Peer Theatre Workshop production in collaboration with Lahore Arts Council and Royal Norwegian Embassy, was on women empowerment.
Written by Ijaz Rizvi and directed by Tipu Sultan, the play was an impressive effort. It was staged on the lawns of Alhamra with a black backdrop. The play was a mix of mime, gestures and dialogues.
Saadan Pirzada said the play had been staged in other cities of Punjab as well. The last show was held at Gujranwala, he added.
He said 12 performances of the play would be arranged. The play will also be staged on Wednesday (today) at Alhamra.
