KASUR: Police claimed on Tuesday a robber was killed in firing of his accomplices during an encounter near Jahowala village.

Police said Javed, who was wanted in 60 cases of robbery and other heinous crimes, was in the custody of the Multan police who handed him over to the Kasur police on Aug 28 in a case (681/14) the Pattoki police registered under section 395 of PPC.

The suspect was on physical remand till Sept 1.

A Pattoki police partytook the suspect for the recovery of looted items and weapons on Monday.

Near Jagowala village, accomplices of the alleged robber stopped the police van and tried to rescue Javed.

Having failed on first attempt, they tool< refuge in fields from where they opened Kre at police as a result of which Javed died on the spot.

According to police, the robber was wanted to the Kasur police in 28 cases and 32 cases were registered with Lahore, Lodhran and Vehari police.
