Agitation over three-day outage

2017-09-02
HYDERABAD: Residents of various localities took to the streets on Friday evening in protest against failure of the Hyderabad Electric Supply Company to restore power supply to several hundred consumers three days after it went off.

The protesters, who placed burning tyres along Old Sabzi Mandi Road to disrupt flow of vehicular traffic, told local reporters that the pole-mounted transformer (PMT) meant for Khwaja Gharib Nawaz Colony, Hall Road and several other adjoining localities had burnt out on Wednesday but could not be replaced or repaired until Friday evening.

They said they had been without power and water for three days and the local Hesco officials remained indifferent to their sufferings. They said they were being made to continue to suffer even in the Eid days.

The protesters held a demonstration on the Khwaja Gharib Nawaz bridge and then in Old Sabzi Mandi raising slogans against Hesco. They demanded immediate restoration of power supply to their areas.

Parts of Hirabad, Dadan Shah, Latifabad No. 9 and some other areas also remained without electricity for one to three days due to similar local faults.

Hesco teams could not attend the complaints although there was no rain in Hyderabad on Thursday and Friday.
