VACANT TE ACHING POSTS: Over 9,000 teachingpositions have been lying vacant in various schools across Balochistan for more than two years.
Last year, a qualifying test was conducted for the vacant posts, but right after the test, rumours had started circulating about the jobs being `sold`. A case was filed against those who had conducted the test. The relevant court in its verdict asked the government to fill the vacant posts immediately. It has been three months since the court`s decision, but uncertainty has persisted.
It seems like someone in the government has decided that a group of bureaucrats will select the candidates.
The government should transparently recruit teachers as soon as possible.
Amjad Ali Quetta MONEY-MINTING CONSTABLES: Karachi is experiencing a surge in road accidents. The primary reason for it is the lack of focus and resolve on the part of the city`s traffic police force.
The relevant office must issue strict orders to all the traffic constables who are stationed on different roads and intersections to start managing traffic, with zero tolerance for reckless driving. They should stop standing in groups and stopping motorists to check their documents simpy to mint money.
Arsalan Farugi Karachi UNNECESSARY CRITICISM: As the saying goes, if one cannot make life easier for others, it is better to remain silent. The saying came to mind in the wake of some statements issued by various ministers in Sindh who criticised the decision of the Punjab government to provide relief to its electricity consumers. The ministers seem to have have decided to defend the Sindh government by highlighting the progress made in various sectors.
The fact is that the claimed progress is benefiting only a limited section of society. Reduction in electricity tariff will improve the lives of almost all the poor and middle-class people.
