HuT activist convicted

PESHAWAR, Oct 1: An anti-terrorism court here on Tuesday convicted an activist of proscribed organisation for distributing objectionable pamphlets against the chief of army staff and chief election commissioner before the May 11 elections and awarded him two years jail.

The presiding officer of the court pronounced that the prosecution had proved its case against the accused, Mohammad Saad, and the evidence on record proved his involvement in the offence.

Witnesses said that soon after the verdict the convict said that even if he was sentenced to death he would continue to spread their message of establishing `Khilafat` in Pakistan.

The accused, stated to be a member of Hizb-ut-Tahrir (HuT), belongs to Banda Khan area of Abbottabad district.

He was arrested on May 3 in the jurisdiction of Khan Raziq police station on Naz Cinema Road.-Bureau Report
