JHANG: Doctors of the Jhang District Headquarters Hospital called off an indefinite strike on Thursday 24 hours after the district administration assured them a better security at the hospital.
They had struck on Wednesday for the arrest of the attendants who had manhandled doctors and a paramedic alleging them of negligence in treating their patient. Doctors had stoppedworking in the old emergency, trauma centre and other wards.
Muhammad Ilyas fell from the second floor of his house and was brought to the hospital in a critical condition. The relatives of the patient alleged that no doctor was on duty when they brought Ilyas to the trauma centre.
Doctor Lugman, who was to be present at the centre, arrived there af ter half an hour and pronounced Ilyas dead on arrival. The relatives of the deceased became infuriated andthey thrashed the doctor and a dispenser. They also smashed the windowpanes and furniture of the trauma centre.
After the incident, the Jhang chapter of the Pakistan Medical Association had announced a strike for security.
On Thursday, the district administration assured the doctors that two constables each would be posted in trauma centre and the emergency ward and those creating a mess at the hospital would be held.
