MANSEHRA, Nov 1: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Secretary Elementary and Secondary Education Joudat Ayaz has said that the government spend s more on the education of students in public sector institutions than the private sector educational institutions do, but results of government schools are still unsatisfactory.

`The government spends Rs1,816 a month on the education of each student in public sector schools which is much higher than the amount being spent by private sector schools, but still the results of private schools are far better than the government schools,` said Mr Ayaz while speaking at the annual parents day function of Jinnah Basic School and Boys College here the other day.

Principal of the institution Fayyaz Ahmad, Safia Janis Khan and others also spoke on the occasion.

The secretary said that now the standard of education in government schools was improving as teachers were being inducted to the depart-ment on merit. He said that political interference in education department`s affairs was being stopped.

`Now all appointments in education department are made on merit,` he claimed and said that people`s confidence in government schools was being restored.

Mr Ahmad said that his institution opened 17 years ago had been producing encouraging results in the Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education.

He said that students of his school and college were getting six to eight positions in top 20 in SSC and FSc exams every year.

Meanwhile, the students of Kohsar Children Academy observed Halloween on Thursday by dressing as witches, ghosts etc.

The children showed enthusiasm and played tricks of horrors and fear with their fellows.

Creating horror and acts of evil is the main feature of celebrations of Halloween, which is observed in Europe and other parts of the world on Oct 31 every year.
