LAHORE: A teenaged boy was killed while nine others were injured as they hit the Jail Road Underpass when the driver of the bus whose rooftop they were travelling on attempted to use the underpass on Canal Road on Saturday.

An eyewitness said at least 10 boys were travelling on the rooftop of the bus which was going to Sambrial, Sialkot, when the bus driver, instead of using the bridge, drove the vehicle under the underpass. He said as the bus got closer to the underpass, the boys lay down but despite that they received injuries, including one who suffered serious wounds.

He said all the injured belonged to Sambrial and were on a trip to Lahore. They sat on the rooftop of the bus as it left Data Sahib`s shrine. There was no barrier which could block the entry of heavy vehicle to the underpass.

Rescue 1122 team rushed to the spot and shifted the victims to Services Hospital where one of them succumbed to injuries.

Civil Lines Division SP Imtiaz Sarwar told Dawn they were removing the bus from underpass to clear the road for traffic, adding the police had arrested the driver.
