Doctor, clerk arrested in corruption cases

SUKKUR: The Jacobabad anti-corruption police on Tuesday booked and arrested a former civil surgeon along with a clerk two days after seizing the three-year record of the local civil hospital in a raid carried out in connection with the alleged misappropriation of funds amounting to around Rs5 million.

An FIR (5/2016) was registered on the complaint of anti-corruption circle officer Shaukat Ali Rind, who stated that former civil surgeon Dr Ghulam Shabbir Shaikh in collaboration with senior clerk Qurban Buriro misappropriated amounts of money from Rs5 million funds released under the head of zakat. The funds were supposed to be spent on procuring medicines and food for needy patients and fuel for ambulances. Dr Rind has been replaced with another doctor as civil surgeon but he is still in service and posted at the same hospital.

In a separate action, the anti-corruption police carried out a raid on a house situated with in Bismillah Bagh in Jacobabad and arrested a former assistant district education officer, Abdul Shakoor Banglani.

The arrest was made in connection with an inquiry into the demolition of the Govt Primary School, Raheem Jakhrani, in Mir Mohammed Panhwar village about three weeks ago.

An FIR (04/2016) was registered against the suspect on behalf of the state.
