LARKANA: Senior Minister for Food and Parliamentary Affairs Nisar Ahmed Khuhro was accorded a rousing welcome on Tuesday when he came to his home town after becoming the Sindh presidentofthe PakistanPeoplesParty.

Waving to the jubilant crowd dancingaround the truck he,along with other PPP leaders, was riding, Mr Khuhro thanked the people of Larkana for their gesture and asked party workers to prepare for the 2018 general elections.

The caravan of a large number of four-wheelers and two-wheelers moved on at a snail`s pace upon entering Larkana district`s boundary as joyous PPP workers and supporters kept dancing and walking around the truck. The caravan drove the road from Radhan to Moenjodaro and then to Larkana.

Numerous welcome camps were set up along the road, which was decorated with colourful buntings at several places. It took the procession many hours to reach the city and the entire route keptreverberating with full throat slogans of `Jeay Bhutto-Sada Jeay`, `Zindah hey bibi zinda hey`, etc.

Among those riding the truck were Sindh Minister for Agriculture Suhail Anwar Siyal, Hizbullah Bughio, Aljaz Jakhrani, MPA Khursheed Junejo, Larkana Mayor Mohammed Aslam Shailch, Abdul Fatah Bhutto and other senior party leaders.

Speaking to the crowd at Jinnah Bagh`s main gate and Pakistan Chowk, Mr Khuhro recalled that itwas during 1996-97 when [slain PPP co-chairperson] Benazir Bhutto`s government was toppled and she spoke to her people at this place. `She had said that law for Lahore and for Larkana is different,` he said.

The senior PPP leader thanked [PPP chairman] Bilawal BhuttoZardari and co-chairman Asif Ali Zardari, as well as other senior party colleagues and the people of Larkana for reposing confidence in him. `I was appointed Sindh PPP president first by Benazir Bhutto and this is the second time I have been chosen for the slot,` he said.`Until yesterday I was a PPP worker and today also I am a party worker to serve the party and people dedicatedly,` he said. He said the party had always respected its workers and valued their sacrifices.

He said Mr Bhutto-Zardari was making relentless efforts to reorganise the party and wanted to see it restructured at the union council level. He noted that the party chief was openly challenging extremists.

`He is not doing that like leaders of Bani Gala who have confined themselves to their houses, and others who have detained themselves within the PM House, and thosewho are sitting in London,` he said.

Without naming anyone, he said products of dictatorship were there but fiyalas [PPP workers] had the history of fighting dictators. He asked workers to prepare for the next general elections.

Citing the four demands presented to the prime minister by the PPP chairman, Mr Khuhro said if these demands were turned down, the ruling party would face [PPPJ worl(ers` wrath on roads.

The senior PPP leader predicted that Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari would write the history by becoming the youngest prime minister in 2018like his mother did by coming the first woman prime minister of the Islamic world.

`It was our promise to Benazir Bhutto that we will win 100 per cent seats in Larkana and we kept our promise. The people of Larkana will again honour the PPP with the same victory in the next general elections,` he said.

Amidst strict security measures, Mr Khuhro briefly stopped at all welcome camps to speal( to party workers.

The caravan was heading for Garhi Khuda Bakhsh Bhutto when the last reports came in.
