LAHORE: The psychiatry department of the King Edward Medical University (KEMU) has finalised amendments to the Mental Health Act 2001 in order to make the law according to the present-day requirements.
Renowned psychiatrists and experts would be consulted to make the draft a comprehensive law, said Chief Minister`s Adviser on Health Khwaja Salman Rafique during a meeting with KEMC Psychiatry Department Head Prof Dr Aftab Asif at Civil Secretariat on Tuesday.
Prof Af tab said a number of terrorism incidents had changed the situation altogether, necessitating elaborate definitions and treatment plans for mental disorders. He said after the sad incident of Army Public School at Peshawar, a psycho trauma centre was established at Mayo Hospital where the affected people of different terrorism incidents were treated and rehabilitated.
He said the amendments were proposed by experts after reviewing them at different levels.
`It took one year or so to finalise the amendments, said Dr Aftab while presenting a copy of the proposals.
