BOMBAY: The trial of Rafiq Sabir Mazangavi (25), who is charged with attempt to murder and voluntarily causing hurt on Mr. M.A. Jinnah commenced before Mr. Justice Blagden and a Common Jury at the Criminal Sessions of the Bombay High Court today [Nov 1].
Mr. Jinnah, his Secretary Mr. Syed, a Pathan watchman at Mr. Jinnah`s residence and Mr.
Dinshaw Masina, who treated Mr. Jinnah after he was attacked gave evidence today. Mr.
Jinnah will be further examined tomorrow when translations of certain letters he had received from some members of the Khaksar Organisation will be read.
Mr. K.A. Somjee who opened the case for the Crown, gave a resume of the circumstances that led up to the apprehension of the accused, Rafiq Sabir. The accused was a `Janbaz` (one who was willing to sacrifice his life) in the Khaksar Organisation. The attack on Mr. Jinnah was made on July 26 last. Prior to the attack, Mr.
Jinnah had received numerous letters and telegrams asking him that he should take the initiative in seeing Mr. Gandhi. Mr. Jinnah in his evidence deposed that anybody who desired to meet him could walk into his house. For sometime in June this year he received a number of letters and telegrams.... Dawn Delhi
