MANSEHRA, Dec 1: The residents of Chaterplan and adjoining areas, led by MPA Wali Mohammad Khan, on Sunday stopped officials of National Transmission Distribution Company (NTDC) to disconnect electricity being supplied to a local grid station from Khan Khawar Hydropower Project (KKHP).
The NTDC officials wanted to link the grid station with the national grid.
`We would not allow Wapda to disconnect electricity being supplied to Chaterplan grid station from the KKHP as electricity being produced at the local dam is meant only for the people of Hazara,` said the MPA while speaking to protesters in Chaterplan.
A team of NTDC led by chief engineerTahir Khan Jadoon wanted to delink the Chaterplan grid station from the KKHP, but local people thronged at the spot and forcibly disrupted the work.
Besides others, former union nazims, including Sadiq Rasheedi, Wakeel Shah and Zahir Khan, also spoke on the occasion.
The MPA said that the KKHP was meant for supply of power to people of Hazara and now the government wanted to divert its electricity to the national grid, which was unacceptable to them.
He said that people of Hazara were suffering due to prolonged loadshedding while the government wanted to divert electricity produced here to other parts of the country.
Mr Wali Khan said that he would takeup the issue with the federal government and on floor of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly.
Mr Rasheedi said that if the work on power line disconnection was not suspended the people would besiege the grid station besides blocking Karakoram Highway.
He said that the government should address the loadshedding problem in Konsh and Siren valleys of Mansehra district. He said that the KKHP that was recently completed in Allai area of Battagram district could fulfill the electricity needs of Hazara.
