PESHAWAR, Dec 1: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chamber of Commerce and Industry has sought intervention of Federal Minister for Petroleum and Natural Resources Shahid Khagan Abbasi in resolving gas supply problems faced by industrial consumers in the province.
According to a press release, a KPCCI delegation called on the minister at Islamabad on Saturday and apprised him of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa`s business community`s gas supply related problems.
Led by KPCCI president Zahidullah Shinwari, the delegation informed Mr Abbasi that industrial units in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa were being provided gas at low pressure and as a result manufacturing activities were suffering. The minister was also complained about delay in issuing new gas connections in the province. KPCCI members said that Khyber Pakhtunkhwa was a gas surplus province, but it still experienced low gas pressure and gas supply shortages.
They said that since the province was producing gas more than its consumption requirements, therefore, new gas supply connections should be issued, expanding the gas distribution network.
The delegation also raised the issue of the shifting of CNG stations and petrol pumps` rate of commission, seeking the federal government`s intervention to resolve the two problems.
The press release claimed that the minister assured the delegation of positively looking into the problems brought into his notice and said that new policywould be formulated for shifting CNG stations to rural areas.
Meanwhile, KPCCI has welcomed the federal government`s decision of appointing two Khyber Pakhtunkhwa businessmen on the federal board of investment`s executive committee, according to a press release.
The prime minister office issued a notification on Nov 27 and appointed KPCCI president Zahidullah Shinwari and Hasnain Khurshid Ahmed, chief executive of an industrial unit, as members of the federal board of investment`s executive committee. This would provide an opportunity to KPCCI, according to the press release, to work in close collaboration with the federal authorities to attract domestic and foreign investors to Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and other parts of the country.
