Prisoner commits `suicide`

RAWALPINDI, Dec 1: An under-trial prisoner allegedly committed suicide in the Central Jail Adiala on Sunday, police said.

Mohammad Aslam, 49, a resident of Pakistan Air Force Complex in Islamabad, was arrested by the Aabpara police in connection with a murder case in June 2012.

The police claimed that the prisoner was found hanging with a waist-band tied to the ceiling of his barrack on Sunday morning.

The body of the victim was handed over to his family after a postmortem at the District Headquarters Hospital.

Quoting one of the relatives of the victim, the police said he had been in distress after learning about the sentencing of another prisoner with death in a murder case.The victim reportedly discussed the issue with his jail inmates a day before, the police said.

Despite repeated attempts, the jail superintendent, Malik Mushtaq Awan, could not be contacted for comments.

Shot dead: A young man was shot dead outside his house at Dhoke Hassu on Sunday morning, police said.

Jehangir Khan, who worked at Sabzi Mandi Islamabad, was going to his workplace when three men riding a car targeted him.

Ajmair Khan, the father of the deceased, told the police that his son had no enmity with anyone.

The deceased belonged to Kohat.-Staff Reporter
