Protest against police in seminary student case

TOBA TEK SINGH: Family and relatives of a 13-year-old girl who was found dead in a seminary staged a protest at Shahbaz Chowk against the failure of Toba City police in arresting the suspects in the case.

Dr Sikandar Husain, the retired medical superintendent of Toba DHQ Hospital and a resident of Jhang, led the protest. He said Umme Baneen Zohra was a student of Jamia Mehdivia, located on Waryamwala Road, and she was found mysteriously dead in her room in the seminary on Nov 22.He said the City police hadregistered acase after hectic efforts of three days but now they were reluctant to arresting the head of seminary, Allama Bashir Husain Abidi, and his wife as both had been nominated as suspects in the FIR.

Due to the protest traffic remained blocked on Rajana, Jhang, Shorkot and Faisalabad roads for two hours.

Later, District Police Officer Rana Shahzad Akbar assured them that Kamalia DSP Rana Khalid Rasheed would probe the case and that justice would be ensured. At his assurance, the protesters dispersed.
