ISLAMABAD: The capital police will introducesmartphone-based emergency alert system to ensure effective security for schools and hospitals in the city.
A meeting was held which was participated by authorities from the police and of ficials of the Pakistan Tele communication Authority (PTA) to finalise the project initiated by the police 1(eeping in view threats to educational institutions.
The police said access to smartphone-based system would be given to the administrative staff of 422 government and 1,200 private schools, colleges and universities.
IGP Tahir Alam Khan is reviewing the arrangements being made to design and introduce state of the art system.
Directions have also been conveyed to the IT department to ensure that the system becomes functional before the institutions reopen.
The system will be linked to the police control room, Rescue-15 and with numbers of senior officers, the police said, adding that the administration of insti-tutions would also be able to send emergency alerts in no time in case of any situation.
Two smartphones will be provided to every educational institution one for the principal and the other for security incharge.
Similarly the phones will also be provided to senior officers, in-charge of zones, circles and police stations.
The special numbers will be connected to a server, and when an SMS would be sent, it would be received by every mobile phone linked to the server.
The IGP said Islamabad police would be the pioneer police force to use this modern technology for security-related issues.
Mr Khan said security in the city had been enhanced and separate teams headed by 37 deputy superintendents of police and inspectors would coordinate with the administrations of educational institutions and brief all stakeholders about the present situation.
