SUP seeks separate census for aliens in Sindh

By Our Staff Reporter 2017-02-03
KARACHI: President of the Sindh United Party (SUP) Syed Jalal Mehmood Shah has demanded a separate census for all aliens in Sindh ahead of the national population census.

`There are at least four million aliens in Sindh, which include Afghans, Iranians, Burmese, Bangladeshis, Indians, etc. They have been living here for so long that they have also been successful in getting CNICs [computerised national identity cards] but under no circumstances are we going to accept them as Pakistanis,` said Mr Shah during a press conference called at HaiderManzilhere on Thursday.

`We have a Citizens Act of 1951 under which there is a proper procedure of becoming a citizen of Pakistan, which has been violated when so many aliens landed here and keep on coming to make this place their home. But they don`t really qualify as Pakistani citizens under the Citizens Act,` he said.

He said that the party had decided that the SUP and its allies would play their role in the headcount by reviving their Sindh Monitoring Committee.
