`Street criminal involved in sectarian` clash held

KARACHI: The Pakistan Rangers, Sindh, on Sunday claimed to have arrested an alleged street criminal, who also once actively took part in violent clashes between two religious groups in Landhi in which two persons were killed a few years ago.

The paramilitary force has established a special team when a video of a closed-circuit television camera footage about a robbery went viral on social media, said thespokespersonfortheparamilitary force.

Acting on the intelligence-based information, the Rangers conducted an action in Landhi and apprehended the suspect identified as Mohammed Ahmed.

During the initial probe, the suspect revealed that he had been involved in robberies and killings in the metropolis.

He also confessed that he had snatched a pistol from a security guard of a bank in Landhi during a robbery on January 31, 2019, in an incident which was recorded by a CCTV camera.

The held suspect also disclosed that in year 2016, a clash had taken place between two religious groups over a mosque and an Imambargah in Landhi in which he had taken part with a weapon. Two persons were shot dead while three to four others were wounded in the violent clash.

Its FIR (224/2016) was registered with the Landhi police station under terror and murder charges.

No suspect involved in the incident was arrested in the past, according to a Rangers press release.

Besides, the suspect also confessed that he was involved in over 35 robberies in the city. The Rangers claimed to have recovered a weapon from his possession.

He was subsequentlyhanded over to police along with the seized weapon.
